2019 was the year that nearly killed me.
And that taught me one thing – that we have no control over this life. Things just happen, sometimes with no warning, sometimes with devastating results. There you are, cruising along with life, making plans and setting goals, getting in shape, spending wisely, preparing for retirement, enjoying spouse/kids/grandkids. And then – boom! Hit by a bus. Or bitten by a mosquito.
But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to live on purpose, to set goals, to focus on what’s ahead. And that is exactly what I intend to do, not looking back with fear but looking forward with clear vision. As the Apostle Paul put it:
“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.” Philippians 3:12-14 The Message
So here’s my plan for 2020:
- Love more
- Give more
- Help more
- Listen more
- Study more
- Feel more
- Enjoy more
- Pray more
- Create more
- Learn more
- Friend more
- Exercise more
- Do good more
- Seek truth more
- Be positive more
- Eat healthy more
- Understand more
In short, to sum it up, in 2020 I will
- Live more
And you should, too. If you are reading this, 2019 was a good year. So I’m setting my sights on a clear and focused 2020.
